Richard John Evans Memorial Golf Tournament

Mercedes-Benz Edmonton West is proud to be a sponsor for the Richard John Evans Memorial Golf Tournament held each year at the Belvedere Golf and Country Club in Sherwood Park, Alberta. This special event raises money for the Children’s Wish Foundation, a charity organization which grants wishes to children who are seriously or terminally ill.
The event was held on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 this year with a variety of activities and events to help raise money for the charity. John Evans and Brenda Evans are the founders and hosts of the golf tournament, an event he set up and named in honour of their own son who he lost to cancer. The program provides funds to local children to grant their wishes. No one is turned down, and the requests range from trips to Disneyland to swimming with the dolphins. One young boy even wished to go to France and play the bagpipes, a wish that was granted thanks to the funds from the Children’s Wish Foundation.

In addition to a continental breakfast and golf, special activities are held at most of the holes. Everyone receives a prize, and there are children’s wish baskets with items that honour the children. A silent auction gives people opportunities to bid on special items, such as a signed Oiler jersey, autographed football and locker room tour, as well as a limo and restaurant package and other items.
The Richard John Evans Memorial Golf Tournament is just one way the Children’s Wish Foundation raises money to grant the wishes for ill children. Every wish is unique, and the foundation has never denied a wish since the program began in 1984. Professional coordinators work on the wishes to ensure every detail is taken care of from airfare to accommodations. Granting these wishes can bring a little joy into the lives of children who face serious and dire circumstances every day. Mercedes-Benz Edmonton West is proud to be a sponsor and to take part in such a worthy cause, which helps children all over the world and within our own community.
