Crosswind Assist is able to offset even strong gusts of wind. When the esp® sensors sense the vehicle is at risk of leaving the lane they automatically initiate controlled brake intervention. The vehicle stays on course and the steering effort is greatly reduced.

The smart fortwo cabrio comes with one airbag for driver and front passenger respectively and a kneebag for the driver and front passenger. There is also a head/thorax bag for the driver and front passenger in their respective seat backrests.

Torsional stiffness is a particularly crucial safety factor for a cabrio. On the smart fortwo cabrio it has been improved by around 15% in comparison to its predecessor by means of a special blend of different types of steel.
